Summary

Description
English: 1-bromo-1-fluoroethane is undergoing SN2 reaction, with the nucleophile being an OH- group. The carbon to which fluorine and bromine are attached is a chiral centre. The middle stage is called the transition state. The product would be 1-fluoroethan-1-ol, which has a different optical activity to that of 1-bromo-1-fluoroethane.
