Bhāskara II was the author of two renowned mathematical works the Līlāvatī and the Bījagaṇita. He was born in 1114 CE at Vijjaḍaviḍa in Sahyadri region. His greatness lies in making mathematics poetic and attractive. In his work Līlāvatī, which deals with arithmetic and geometry, he gives plenty of interesting examples. Soon, it became the canonical text book of mathematics all over India. There are many commentaries on it. His Bījagaṇita is an elaborate work on algebra. Apart from Līlāvatī and Bījagaṇita, Bhāskara wrote Siddhānta-śiromaṇi which is a work on astronomy. It is in two parts - Grahagaṇitadhyāya and Golādhyāya. He composed this work at the age of 36 (1150 CE).
