In 628 CE, at the age of 30, he wrote Brāhma-sphuṭa-siddhānta, a mathematical and astronomical work containing more than 1000 verse. He was given the title Gaṇaka-cakra-cūḍāmaṇi by Bhāskara II. The title mean 'the crest jewel amongst the group of mathematicians'. Brahmagupta is widely acknowledged to be the father of algebra. the basic operations of negative numbers and zero are documented for the first time in Brāhma-sphuṭa-siddhānta. Brahmagupta also gave the formulae for the diagonals and area of a cyclic quadrilateral in terms of its sides.
Brahmagupta (c. 598 – c. 668 CE) was an Indian mathematician and astronomer. He is the author of two early works on mathematics and astronomy: the Brāhmasphuṭasiddhānta (BSS, "correctly established doctrine of Brahma", dated 628), a theoretical treatise, and the Khaṇḍakhādyaka ("edible bite", dated 665)
